This role involves setting up and operating all Tool Room equipment and CNC machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts. The machinist will fit and assemble machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory, procedures, shop mathematics, and layout techniques, working to tolerances of .001". The position requires comprehension of blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup equipment. The machinist will select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, accessories, and materials on machines. They will calculate and set controls for machining factors, verify conformance of finished workpieces, and perform trial runs to ensure accuracy. The role also includes fitting and assembling parts, verifying dimensions and alignments, operating welding equipment, and conferring with engineers and production personnel to resolve issues. Communication with coworkers and supervisors is essential, as is maintaining statistical process control charts and a clean work environment. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor may be required.
