About The Position
Position sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
- Ability to obtain a US Secret Security clearance.
Nice To Haves
- Experience as a manual machinist on a conventional lathe and CNC machining in an industrial / manufacturing environment.
- A trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification is strongly desired.
- Manual machining experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of setting up the operation of milling machines and lathes.
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans and/or work instructions.
- Working knowledge performing in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment.
- Knowledge of industry applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations.
- Knowledge of machine tools and equipment, machine shop procedures and practices, principals and properties.
- Knowledge of basic mathematic principles to solve problems.
- The ability to work in a team environment and relate to all levels of employees.
Responsibilities
- Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required and method of setup and arrangement.
- Works with a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Makes shop computations.
- Fits and puts together precision parts and determines material, parts and equipment required.
- Fabricates piece parts per work instructions, drawings and specifications through the use of required machine tools.
- Inspects piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements.
- Sets up and operates machine tools.
- Runs machine shop equipment such as lathes, CNC, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions.
- Uses, adjusts, cleans and stores the tools, machinery and equipment used.
- Keeps records and reports of the use of equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
