About The Position

At our Cleveland Service Center site, located in Cleveland, Ohio, we re-manufacture alternators for EVO, HDL and FDL locomotives. The Cleveland Center supplies alternators to locomotive manufacturing sites and repairs points across the globe. The site focuses on safe, efficient processes, while continuously driving out costs. The Machinist A is responsible for performing operations that involve but not limited to machining, welding, dismantling, testing, inspecting and repairing of components across multiple product lines in an effective and efficient manner for the organization. Employees are involved in 5S and lean projects. This role will report directly to the Supervisor. This is a 2nd shift position with standard hours Monday-Friday 3:00pm-11:30pm.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year in manufacturing environment or equivalent experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and concepts.
  • Knowledge and experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and the ability to identify and correct problems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and/or re-qualify equipment in the areas of responsibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Tow Motor experience preferred.
  • A welding & brazing certification is not required to apply for the position, but certification must be obtained in the first six months after being placed in the role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the function of leading the Machining/ Buff & Tap/ Frame Head Cable Aux department.
  • Communicate, direct, instruct, schedule, and assist.
  • Perform complicated operations involving machining, welding, dismantling, cleaning, testing, inspecting and repairing of components across multiple product lines.
  • Support various departments as required, as well as communicate to the lead technical advisor the repair/ build status and completion dates.
  • Assist other work leaders in the development of work scope, material, and tooling requirements.
  • Drive 5S Activities and visualization implementation in work area.
  • Lead Gemba discussions for the department.
  • Demonstrate work ethic with a focus on safety awareness and accident prevention.
  • Meet schedules and make recommendations that will help improve build/repair processes, quality and product reliability.
  • Successfully pass the vision acuity test.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor.
