About The Position

This position interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determines the sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup and arrangement. The machinist works with a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments, makes shop computations, and fits and puts together precision parts. They determine the material, parts, and equipment required. The role involves fabricating piece parts per work instructions, drawings, and specifications using required machine tools, and inspecting these parts. The machinist will set up and operate machine tools, run machine shop equipment such as lathes, CNC, milling machines, and precision grinders to make parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions. They will also use, adjust, clean, and store tools, machinery, and equipment, and keep records and reports of equipment usage. The ability to obtain a US security clearance is also required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 0 to 3 years of prior related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification
  • Manual machining experience
  • Working knowledge of setting up the operation of milling machines and lathes
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans and/or work instructions
  • Working knowledge performing in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment
  • Knowledge of industry applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations
  • Experience as a manual machinist on a conventional lathe and CNC machining in an industrial / manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of machine tools and equipment, machine shop procedures and practices, principals and properties
  • Knowledge of basic mathematic principles to solve problems
  • Ability to work in a team environment and relate to all levels of employees
