About The Position

This role involves repairing machinery and mechanical equipment. The mechanic will examine machines to diagnose problems, dismantle equipment for repairs using hand tools, replace or order replacement parts, reassemble machines, and make necessary adjustments for operation. The position also includes performing other assigned duties. The work environment is a loud shop with exposed moving components. Physical demands include standing and bending for long periods, pushing and testing vehicles and heavy objects, routine lifting up to 50 pounds, handling, grasping, kneeling, carrying, and constant use of vision and mental alertness. Safety glasses and hearing protection may be occasionally required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years' experience working on industrial equipment and / or three years' doing metal fabrication.
  • Able to obtain and retain a forklift operators license.
  • Valid and current state-issued drivers license.
  • Passing a pre-employment drug screen and a government background check is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must be available to work any shift.
  • Willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.
  • Access to the Depot requires all covered individuals to be registered with the United States Selective Service.

Responsibilities

  • Examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble.
  • Dismantle or partly dismantle machines and perform repairs using hand tools in scraping and fitting parts.
  • Replace broken or defective parts with items obtained from stock.
  • Order the production of a replacement part by a machine shop or send the machine to a machine shop for major repairs.
  • Prepare written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from machine shops.
  • Reassemble machines and make all necessary adjustments for operation.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Continuously develop and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Complete all training requirements and fulfill self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities.
  • Participate in emergency response tasks and serve on safety committees and teams.
  • Consistently provide services that meet customer expectations.
  • Carry out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts.
  • Read and understand Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities.
  • Read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to the job.
