This role involves the visual examination and measurement of machined parts using precision instruments and gauges to ensure adherence to blueprint specifications, workmanship standards, material quality, and finish. The inspector will work with a variety of materials including different grades of steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, and bronze. The parts inspected can range from bolts and die castings to sand castings, forgings, extrusions, purchased parts, brake cylinders, and oleo struts. The position requires determining correct inspection procedures, devising methods for new machine parts, and making recommendations for improvements. Additionally, the role includes assigning duties to lower-grade inspectors, instructing them, and verifying their work. Inspectors may also be responsible for accepting vendor-made machined parts, forgings, and castings in Receiving Inspection, excluding gears and gear-type parts.
