About The Position

The Machine Shop Coordinator is responsible for providing technical support to manufacturing so that parts are provided per specifications and in a timely manner. In the absence of a Machine Shop Supervisor, this role will provide work direction to department employees.

Requirements

  • Requires Journeyman Machinist certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Requires education generally equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • Requires 6+ years of progressively difficult machining set ups.
  • Requires mathematical skills that require the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform trigonometric calculations.
  • Requires a knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Requires a strong knowledge of Workwise ERP System.
  • Requires good oral and written communication skills in order to interact with and provide work direction to employees.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and routings.
  • Must be able to collaborate with others (including in person) to proactively develop solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Set up; program and operate CNC machine centers.
  • In the absence of a Machine Shop Supervisor; organize shop orders for work centers in shop order number sequence; use computer to print out dispatch reports for various work centers; place shop orders in date order per Dispatch Report, while also grouping similar work plans together wherever possible; distribute work orders to shop employees to various machining centers; attempt to expedite rush jobs through shop in a timely manner.
  • Train other machinists on various machines.
  • Address questions of machine operators regarding tooling, procedures, fixture, and print clarification, contact design engineers and project leaders to resolve questions or conflicts on blueprints; make suggestions to improve efficiency in machining parts.
  • Conducts and participates in specified training for department employees on tooling and machining practices.
  • Recommends and implements changes in procedures.
  • Work with machine operators to come up with fixtures, new tooling, and procedures to enhance productivity while maintaining product quality.
  • Determine ways to repair work pieces made in error.
  • Completes any engineering changes as necessary.
  • Acts as liaison in dealing with issues with vendors.
  • Attends Machine Shop leadership and scheduling meetings.
  • Resolve issues of late or missing parts; change or clarify routings as necessary.
  • Operation of forklift, scissors lift and cranes.
