About The Position

The Machine Room Foreman sets up, operates, and maintains heavy industrial woodshop equipment. They translate blueprints and cut-lists into precise, raw, or semi-finished wood components that are later assembled into custom architectural woodwork, cabinets, moulding, panel systems and more; all to be eventually installed into custom one-off type AWI certified projects.

Requirements

• High proficiency in handling heavy machinery and executing precise setup adjustments.
• 2 years or more of previous machine room or production floor oversite – within the woodworking realm.
• Typically, 2 to 5+ years of experience working in a custom woodworking or architectural millwork shop environment.
• Deep understanding of wood properties, joinery, and hardware, combined with strong mathematical and measuring capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate, configure, and safely operate specialized woodworking machinery (e.g., CNC routers, beam saws, edgebanders, planers, shapers, moulders, and wide-belt sanders).
• Maintain a clean, organized work zone and strictly adhere to all OSHA and company safety standards, including the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Inspect cut parts for accuracy, grain match, and defects prior to passing them along to the assembly (bench carpentry) and or finishing department(s).
• Perform routine maintenance, change tooling (blades/bits), and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues on machine room equipment.
• Read and interpret detailed shop drawings, blueprints, and cut-lists to establish exact dimensions and specifications.
• Cut, shape, bore, edge-band, and sand raw lumber, veneers, and sheet goods to meet required tight tolerances.
