About The Position

National Oilwell Varco (NOV) is a leading supplier of drilling products globally and a Fortune 500 company with a strong commitment to employee safety. The Conroe Facility produces downhole products for drilling activities in North America. This role operates within a highly organized and clean 300,000 sq. ft. fabrication facility, utilizing new CNC Machines. The plant operates 24/7 to meet high demand for its products, providing employees with an air-conditioned environment and a strong safety program.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred or Equivalent years of experience in a related role or manufacturing environment.
  • Must put personal and team safety first.
  • Must be able to work a 40 hour week with up to 20 hours overtime if needed to meet operational needs.
  • Flexibility in work hours to meet operational shift changes and needs.
  • Able to work weekends.
  • Timely decision making.
  • Follow work instructions as outlined.
  • Ability to take instructions without taking offense.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team for a common goal.
  • Dependable attendance is a must and a requirement for the job.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials for molding, welding, machining, or forging.
  • Set up and operate machines, such as lathes, millers, grinders, presses, drills, or auxiliary machines.
  • Set up, operate, or tend machines that cut or slice bit materials.
  • Set up, operate, or tend furnace machines to melt materials for molds and forms.
  • Position, adjust, and secure stock material or workpieces against stops or in chucks, fixtures, or automatic feeding mechanisms, manually or using hoists.
  • Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions and to plan operational sequences.
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary.
  • Change worn machine accessories, such as cutting tools or brushes, using hand tools.
  • Set machine stops or guides to specified lengths as indicated by scales, rules, or templates.
  • Select the proper coolants and lubricants and start their flow.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpieces, using files, hand grinders, wire brushes, or power tools.
  • Start machines and turn handwheels or valves to engage feeding, cooling, and lubricating mechanisms.
  • Move controls or mount gears, cams, or templates in machines to set feed rates and cutting speeds, depths, and angles.
  • Record operational data, such as pressure readings, lengths of strokes, feed rates, or speeds.
  • Extract or lift jammed pieces from machines.
  • Measure and mark reference points and cutting lines on workpieces, using traced templates, compasses, and rules.
  • Check and inspect work for conformity to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Read, interpret and understand work orders and schematics.
  • Recognize discrepant materials and request replacements in accordance with standard operating procedures.
