About The Position

Perform set ups and operate machines to produce parts to blueprint specifications in support of and meeting production schedules. Employee will set up and perform a wide range of cutting, burning, drilling, boring, tapping, reaming, milling, facing and turning operations on the machines to produce a wide variety of parts and weldments from various ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys using advanced machining methods and programming techniques. Incumbent expected to support all company programs such as Lean, 5S, TPR, etc. All machine tool trainees begin classification as a Machine operator. Operate is defined as the ability to produce parts to specification without the assistance of another operator.

Requirements

  • Ability to identify materials
  • Read Blue Prints / Machine Drawings
  • Ability to read standard measuring devices to the nearest .0312 (1/32")
  • Understand basic geometric dimensioning & tolerances
  • Perform basic shop math

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Experience with CNC programming preferred with knowledge and experience operating the specific make and model machining center where the vacancy exists.
  • Formal training from an accredited vocational or trade school

Responsibilities

  • Perform set ups and operate machines to produce parts to blueprint specifications.
  • Set up and perform a wide range of cutting, burning, drilling, boring, tapping, reaming, milling, facing and turning operations.
  • Produce a wide variety of parts and weldments from various ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys using advanced machining methods and programming techniques.
  • Support all company programs such as Lean, 5S, TPR, etc.
  • Claim labor in BAAN
  • Maintain operator level PM's
  • Use process and set up sheets
  • Inspect parts produced for non-conformance
  • Set up and use standard fixturing (Small Parts)
  • Call up programs and operate CNC controls
  • Set up and run 2 axis machine center
  • Use data collection tools
  • Operate a group 1 or higher machining center
  • Participate in a SMED
  • Consistently hold tolerances as specified on prints and drawings.
  • Perform all start up, routine maintenance procedures, and shut down processes for their assigned machine(s).
  • Operate at least one Group 1 machining centers.
  • Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Perform job functions in a safe manner.
  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required by Company Policy for the job being performed.
  • Know and follow established job specific and facility wide safety and health procedures and rules.
  • Actively participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency based on training received.
  • Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management’s attention or correct those you can.
