About The Position

The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating heavy machinery and related gauges to perform various cutting, punching, forming, blocking, and processing operations. They must have thorough knowledge of production techniques and the ability to produce quality-building parts. Understands and follows safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and around a manufacturing environment by actively participating in a culture of safety. Understands and follows quality and customer standards. Ability to set-up and operate machinery and equipment to cut, punch, form, paint, and/or package quality finished or semi-finished parts. Ability to operate computerized equipment and machine controls. Ability to use quality measurement devices such as tape measure, calipers, micrometers. Ability to use handheld metal working, packaging or banding tools. Ability to operate material handling equipment such as overhead crane, forklift or combi lift. Performs routine preventive maintenance, adjustments, and lubrication on equipment and production tools as required to maintain proper operation. Marks part numbers, order numbers, and the number of pieces on parts. Attaches identification tags as required for customer to have the ability locate correct parts. Interprets blueprints, specifications, and other technical data to select the correct raw material or semi-finished parts. Maintains continuous improvement practices in work area. May be assigned other projects and duties as designated by Team Leader.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Knowledge of a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have good computer and communication skills
  • Must be able to become certified to operate a forklift vehicle and overhead crane
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist
  • Mobility – Prolonged periods of time on feet, standing, bending, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • A combination of education and experience may be qualifying
  • Experience using handheld metalworking tools, a plus
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles, a plus
