About The Position

The Machine Operator tends fabricating machines that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures. Machines may include cutoff saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, and punch presses. The role involves reading job specifications and blueprints, preparing and operating machines, inspecting workpieces and machine operation, measuring finished dimensions, removing burrs and other surface imperfections, and performing minor machine maintenance. This is a regular hourly, non-exempt employee position located in Charlotte, Michigan. The listed pay range is $19.40–$23.60 per hour.

Requirements

Ability to work independently.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Structured training or relevant work experience.
Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to perform basic math.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to reason and solve problems as they pertain to the position.
Ability to learn and navigate manufacturing software.

Responsibilities

Read job specifications and blueprints to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
Set stops and guides to the specified length.
Position workpieces against stops or align layout marks with the die or blade.
Activate machines using buttons or pedals.
Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects and machine malfunctions.
Measure workpiece dimensions with necessary tools.
Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, and scale from workpieces.
Perform minor machine maintenance.
