About The Position

This position involves tending a machine that performs packaging functions such as filling, marking, and/or labeling. The Machine Operator is responsible for starting and observing the machine's operation, stopping it if there are malfunctions, and making minor adjustments or repairs. The role also includes inspecting filled packs for quality control, managing time effectively for breaks, feeding product to conveyors, and mounting supplies like film onto spindles. The job requires adherence to company policies, meeting productivity standards, and maintaining a safe work environment. Adaptability to change, punctuality, dependability, and initiative are key competencies for success in this role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Must have mechanical experience and/or a good understanding of mechanical functions.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and the ability to input data into a computer and touch screen.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds as needed during the shift
  • Stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift
  • Use hands to finger, grip, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Talk and hear
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

Responsibilities

  • Starts machine and observes operation to ensure machine is operating properly.
  • Stops machine and reports malfunction to supervisor.
  • Makes minor adjustments or repairs such as opening valves, changing cutting dies, setting guides, clearing away damaged product containers, and setting machine zeros.
  • Inspects filled packs to ensure that product is packaged according to specifications.
  • Demonstrates good time management in choosing the best time to send your line to break when the lead is unavailable.
  • Feeds product to conveyors.
  • Mounts supplies such as film on spindles.
