About The Position

This role involves leading press operations and the associated crew to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient production. The Lead Manufacturing Operator Technician will be responsible for overseeing the press run, maintaining quality standards, providing leadership to the crew, and ensuring all production and maintenance tasks are completed effectively.

Requirements

  • Previous press experience required.
  • Must be participative and develop a work environment where cooperation, empowerment, and teamwork among crew is the accepted norm.
  • Ability to actively participate in production-related activities and follow supervisor direction.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for an extended period.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Type II Forklift certification.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic and the structure and content of the English language, including meaning and spelling of words, and rules of composition.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively work independently with little or no direction and follow up to complete assignments.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical and technical knowledge of the job, including understanding of work instructions, processes, equipment, and materials.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively complete work and required paperwork thoroughly, accurately, and neatly, following established processes and procedures.
  • Ability to consistently and effectively demonstrate initiative and creativity; teamwork and cooperation; and adhere to and comply with all company and environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and work rules.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime and other shifts.
  • Prompt and reliable attendance required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in achieving, maintaining, and monitoring the quality of signatures throughout the press run, including ink and water balance, color consistency, web alignment, margins, slitters, and cut-off.
  • Provide effective crew leadership, acting as a positive role model in safety, work ethic, and morale.
  • Rotate crew members for breaks and to reduce fatigue.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors regarding staffing and training of the press crew.
  • Motivate staff to meet department objectives and production schedules.
  • Assign crew members to job tasks to meet production and quality requirements and facilitate training.
  • Train crew members to perform the next level position.
  • Promote teamwork within the department and with other departments, shifts, and crews.
  • Collaborate with crew and supervisors to establish and review maintenance tasks for make-readies and scheduled downtime, assigning duties as necessary.
  • Order plates, provide necessary information, and ensure correct proofs are available and returned.
  • Ensure proper ordered counts are achieved according to the print order and recorded in the system.
  • Determine first save copies on all start-ups and pull appropriate hourly pulls and samples.
  • Pre-plan and execute make-readies in a timely and effective manner, identifying and addressing barriers for continuous improvement.
  • Perform and/or assign preventative maintenance duties and complete maintenance request forms.
  • Maintain inking systems on the press.
  • Track all tools assigned to the press and ensure their return by the end of the shift.
  • Check jobs for accuracy.
  • Maintain cleanliness and general housekeeping in the department.
  • Observe and correct safety hazards, investigate and report accidents, and review safety concerns with the crew.
  • Foster the continual use and implementation of Sheridan's philosophies and tools.
  • Provide accurate information for recording waste and production data.
  • Ensure accurate job and crew timecards and paperwork are submitted.
  • Manage production records in FLEX for accuracy.
  • Communicate and provide feedback to internal and external customers.
  • Attend and participate in required meetings.
  • Train to the next level to provide back-up supervisory coverage in the absence of the shift supervisor and on weekends.
  • Continually identify, develop, and implement improvements in work processes.
  • Serve as a positive role model by living Sheridan’s core values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
