This position is responsible for the production and quality of the printed product. The role involves mounting rolls on unwind machines, ensuring adequate roll stock for continuous operation, and preparing the unwind area with appropriate supplies for the next shift. The operator must ensure unwind and rewind splicers are ready for splices, accurately fill out production reports (View report, Paper Reject Form), and assist the Second Press Operator with register and ink adjustments (viscosity, pH, and color). Responsibilities include cleaning and rebuilding doctor blades or heads, using a paper caliper to check roll thickness, and maintaining a clean press area by sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash daily. The role requires the proper use of safety equipment, verifying correct labeling of pools, agent samples, and test rolls, and staging cores and supplies for the next shift at the rewind station. The operator will also manage the rewind unit, pull product samples for inspection, and label samples with proper data. Assisting Pressmen with quality inspections of press samples, fanfolds, and perf quality is also a key duty. The position involves setting up the RTM system, marking product on the RTM panel, and operating the LVS system. Makeready duties include changing anilox cylinders, plate cylinders, ink chambers, setting up the unwind with correct paper, and setting up the rewind with proper cores. Maintaining 5s standards in the press area, training and mentoring the Press Ink Technician, and training for advancement to the next level position on press are also part of the role. Understanding Anilox specifications and care is required. Any other job duties as assigned will also be performed.
