About The Position

Sets-up, adjusts, and operates die cast machines to produce castings in accordance with specifications. This role involves following drawings and job orders, mounting and securing dies, changing inserts, regulating furnace temperature, spraying die cavities, making trial shots, monitoring production, and using measuring instruments. The operator will produce parts as directed, make minor adjustments, and adhere to all safety rules and regulations. Additionally, the role includes completing inspection sheets, paperwork for production data, performing 5S tasks, and reporting safety concerns.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One to three months of machine tool operating experience is preferred.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to use these operations using units of weight and length measurement.
  • English reading and writing are not mandatory, but operator must be able to communicate through an interpreter.
  • Ability to complete written forms and read basic written instructions.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to use your hands in a skillful, coordinated way to grasp and manipulate objects and demonstrate small, precise movements.
  • Must be able to extend arms to place and remove products in workspace.
  • Required to stand for 8 hours or more.
  • Must lift 50lbs or more.
  • Must have 20/30 vision or better, and/or have corrective glasses to meet this requirement.
  • Ability to work in hot environment that may be reach to 100 degrees or higher.
  • Ability to work in very loud and noisy work environment.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment which includes, designated uniform, steel toe shoes, gloves, ear plugs, safety glasses, and face mask.

Responsibilities

  • Follows drawings, and job orders.
  • Mounts, aligns and secures dies, checks ejector pins for proper action.
  • Changes out inserts when required.
  • Connects and regulates cooling devices.
  • Charges furnace with proper alloy and regulates metal temperature.
  • Sprays die cavity with mold release as required to prevent castings from sticking.
  • Makes trial shots, checks, and adjusts settings to achieve satisfactory quality.
  • Monitors shots and communicates with Secondary operations to maintain quality throughout the run.
  • Uses measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, scales, caliper, etc.
  • Completes inspection sheets.
  • Operates die cast machines to produce parts as directed by Lead Operator or Supervisor.
  • Makes minor adjustments and tool changes as needed to maintain part quality.
  • Observes all safety rules and regulations.
  • Completes paperwork for recording inspections, production data, or other activity.
  • Performs 5S tasks in the work area and complete area checklist.
  • Reports unsafe acts and unsafe conditions to the lead operator or supervisor.
