About The Position

Efficient extruder operation through set up, runs and troubleshooting machinery that ensures a quality product which meets or exceeds internal quality and customer standards. This role involves observing and supporting all safety and environmental rules, performing changeovers, cleaning equipment, overseeing resin blending, completing production paperwork, setting and testing secondary equipment, monitoring machine adjustments, identifying equipment shortfalls, closing orders in the system, collecting and documenting scrap, ensuring REPRO is run/added to resin, adjusting Bill of Materials, performing quality checks, and relieving team members for breaks. Secondary functions include checking run rates, performing comprehensive quality checks, ensuring tools and auxiliary equipment are in proper working condition, maintaining the ink/solvent room, performing Utility Operator duties, and maintaining housekeeping throughout production areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1 or more yrs experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Able to read and follow written/verbal instructions (English)
  • Able to read and write (English) to complete required forms and verify quality products are produced
  • Must have good vision, eye-hand coordination, and hearing
  • Able to work overtime, holidays, weekends, days, or nights for 12 or more hours
  • Able to work independently and in a team
  • Basic math skills
  • Able to read a ruler/tape measure/gauge caliper device(s) to 1/8 of an inch
  • Able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times per day
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • No fear of heights
  • Must have manual dexterity involving total wrist action, twisting, pulling, and raising arms at or above shoulder height
  • Able to work in warm, humid, and cool climates for 12 or more hours per day or night
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, safety goggles, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, face shield, gloves, fire retardant jacket/apron and face mask

Responsibilities

  • Observe, follow and support all safety and environmental rules/procedures/policies
  • Perform changeovers and completes changeover setup form
  • Arrange assistance for changeover
  • Cleans blenders and other equipment for material changes
  • Oversee pre-blend and the blending or mixing of resins in off-line as well as on-line
  • Complete paperwork for production, including labor log, scrap sheet and daily functional check sheet
  • Set all secondary equipment (printer, punches, venting, portable winders, etc.) and test functionality to assure proper set-up and operation
  • Watch for and react to stack light alerts
  • Make machine adjustments as needed to maintain required product quality and/or as identified by Packer/Inspector
  • Identify equipment shortfalls and complete maintenance report forms as needed
  • Close order in system when completed
  • Identify and strive to meet expected rates or standards of production and notes correct variance code in system
  • Collect, weigh, and document all scrap and enter in system
  • Ensure REPRO is being run/added to resin
  • Adjust and/or correct Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Perform and document 2-hour quality checks
  • Relieve other team members for breaks/lunches
  • Perform other related functions and duties as may be assigned
  • Check run rates
  • Perform quality checks front to back (resins, silos, computer information, blender settings, etc.)
  • Ensure tools are in proper location(s)
  • Ensure axillary equipment is in working condition (press, vents V-board, etc.)
  • Ensure ink/solvent room is in proper order
  • Perform all duties of a Utility Operator
  • Maintains housekeeping throughout production area(s) including, but not limited to cleaning around extruders and blenders
