About The Position

This role involves operating machinery in a manufacturing setting, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and efficiency. The Machine Operator B will be responsible for performing safety checks, setting up and adjusting equipment, identifying and reporting production issues, and maintaining a clean work area. The position requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints, measure dimensions, and work with various types of metal forming. The operator will also be responsible for documenting work and time using an online data collection system and making routine decisions to resolve basic manufacturing issues or seeking assistance when needed. A commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement is essential, as is the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

Requirements

  • Must be able to set up, adjust, and make adjustments on a minimum of 3 machines in Fab.
  • Must have strong metal press forming and basic fabrication background.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of fabrication, hydraulic press and/or punch operations including basic set up is desired.
  • Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measurement tools.
  • Demonstrated competency in basic shop math.
  • Basic ability to read and understand blueprints and other shop drawings aids.
  • Ability to work with various types of metal forming constraints with guidance.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desire to learn new skills and improve technical knowledge.
  • Strong orientation toward quality, safety and continuous improvement.

  • Must possess good mechanical ability and the ability to perform basic calculations to operate welding and fabricating machines.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate a welder, grinder, bandsaw, ironworker, overhead crane, torch, measuring devices and a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Prior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness.
  • Must have a basic understanding of computers.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly desired.
  • Previous experience with overhead crane use is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all safety checks at the start of their shift on all cranes and tools and document this as necessary. Continue to perform safety checks throughout the shift.
  • Set up, adjust, and make adjustments on equipment as needed.
  • Report and document basic material, production and quality control issues.
  • Maintain a clean and neat work area.
  • Measure dimensions of completed products or work pieces to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Position, align, fit and weld parts to form completed units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications.
  • Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
  • Heat material or work pieces to prepare for or complete production.
  • Be attentive to detail in all job tasks, quality and workmanship in each product manufactured.
  • Select correct material for the job task with set documents, or assistance.
  • Account for time and work completed via online data collection system.
  • Make routine decisions and use problem solving to resolve basic manufacturing issues or seek assistance.
  • Measure materials using a tape measure.
  • Operation of cranes, hoists, and forklifts as needed. Also successfully complete any training, safety program relating to the operation of the equipment.
  • Understand and abide by all safety rules and regulations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and finishing specifications as they relate to finishing products.
  • Perform housekeeping and other related duties that are assigned.
  • Follow all policies.
