About The Position

This role involves setting up and operating SMT machines, inspecting the product produced to IPC-A-610 & J-STD-001 Class 3 standards, and following all process documentation. The operator must be able to diagnose defects and problems as they arise. Key responsibilities include maintaining and aligning solder paste stencils, applying solder paste, replenishing and controlling SMT components, verifying component positioning, values, and polarity, and accurately filling in process documentation. The operator will follow process/program documentation for lead or lead-free solder assemblies, review routings against prints for consistency, and verify correct program revisions. They will also monitor floor stock inventory like solder paste, track expiration dates, and inform their supervisor when stock is low or expired. This role includes performing preventative maintenance on equipment, cleaning, and identifying when further maintenance is needed. Learning machine part parameters and programs is essential for optimizing machine time. The operator must produce a quality product in a timely manner according to prints and routings. They will collaborate with engineers and technicians on New Product Introduction (NPI) setups and runs. Periodic hand soldering under a scope for solder touch-up and product review is required. The role utilizes basic hand tools, special fasteners, soldering irons, and measuring devices, and may involve measuring and recording product data. X-Ray inspection using AXI or Glenbrook is required to ensure product meets customer expectations. Rework using the Air-Vac rework machine will be performed. Hand soldering work while using a scope is also part of the duties, and some components may require tinning prior to SMT placement. Training other employees and assisting in new employee orientation may be required.

Requirements

Related experience in set-up, operation and troubleshooting of surface mount technology and microscope soldering.
Will be required to pass J-STD & IPC-610 Certification to be qualified to perform the job duties of a Surface Mount Machine Operator.
Follows oral and written instructions, and must be fluent at reading blueprints.
High School education or equivalent, plus one year similar manufacturing experience required.
Must be able to perform job functions while using a scope.
Visual exams are required pre-hire and biennial to confirm visual acuity of 20/20 with or without glasses along with passing a standard color vision exam.

Experience in programming of SMT equipment is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Maintains and aligns solder paste stencils, applies solder paste to achieve an even and consistent screen print on all apertures.
Replenishes and controls SMT components in a pick and place machine, verifies component positioning, values and polarity.
Fills in process documentation to be complete and accurate.
Able to follow process/program documentation developed by Engineering to properly process lead or lead-free solder assemblies for acceptable solder joints at each solder connection on the assembly.
Review routings against prints to ensure consistency.
Verify correct programs and revisions are called out on routers.
Responsible for the monitoring of floor stock inventory such as solder paste and monitoring expiration dates and informing Supervisor or Lead when low or expired.
Following preventative maintenance schedules on equipment will clean and perform PMs.
Responsible for identifying when further maintenance is needed.
Learn machine part parameters and programs to ensure optimization of machine time usage.
Is able to produce a quality product on a timely basis per print and routings.
Work with engineers and technicians to set up and run NPI products through any of the soldering processes performed by machines or associates.
Periodic hand soldering under a scope is required for solder touch up and product review of solder joints.
Uses basic hand tools, special fasteners, soldering iron and measuring devices.
May be required to measure and record product data.
Perform X-Ray inspection using the AXI or Glenbrook to make sure the product we produce meets customer expectations.
Perform rework using the Air-Vac rework machine.
Will perform hand soldering work while using a scope, some components may be necessary to tin (add solder to solderable surfaces) prior to SMT placement.
May be required to train other employees and assist in orientation of new employees.
