This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and geometry. The Machine Operator will be proficient in using precision measuring tools and equipment to ensure the accuracy of machined components. A solid understanding of common metals used in the machine tool industry and various cutting tools for metal removal is essential. The operator will be responsible for selecting the appropriate tools, machines, materials, speeds, and feeds to complete assigned component parts. This includes machining parts to required specifications and drawings using lathes, milling machines, and grinders. The ability to work independently, interpret drawings and engineering information, and determine operational sequences is crucial. Communication with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel for technical information exchange is also a key aspect of the role. Additionally, the operator may be involved in designing fixtures, tooling, or experimental parts and reviewing drawings and instructions to understand output specifications. Other duties as assigned.
