Machine Maintenance Technician

Magna Machine Co•Cincinnati, OH
•Onsite

About The Position

The Machine Maintenance Technician is responsible for keeping sophisticated CNC and manual machining equipment in satisfactory operating condition for aerospace and defense manufacturing. This role involves not only fixing equipment when it breaks but also performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing issues before they cause downtime, and ensuring equipment is returned to production quickly and effectively. The position requires a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, CNC controls, and precision alignment techniques. As part of the "Ownership For All" program, eligible full-time employees receive an ownership stake in the company.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years of hands-on equipment maintenance experience on both manual and CNC machines.
  • Solid mechanical knowledge of bearings, ball screws, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulic systems, and lubrication systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow basic electrical schematics with confidence.
  • Proficiency with digital voltmeters and oscilloscopes for electrical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with CNC controls — Siemens, Fanuc, and Heidenhain — and the ability to use control diagnostics effectively.
  • Knowledge of axis feedback systems including inductosyn, resolver, encoder, and linear scales.
  • A cooperative, team-first attitude and the initiative to help the people around you succeed.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours or weekends when urgent maintenance needs arise.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree or certificate in industrial maintenance is preferred.
  • Experience with laser-based linear accuracy checks and Renishaw ball bar circularity testing is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain manual and CNC machines in satisfactory operating condition to meet production and quality objectives.
  • Keep preventive maintenance on schedule and on standard.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment failures quickly and effectively, returning machines to production as fast as possible without cutting corners on the fix.
  • Perform preventive maintenance as required, staying ahead of the problems that shut lines down.
  • Read mechanical drawings to understand, disassemble, and rebuild machine components with confidence.
  • Use levels, granite squares, and column squares to check and mechanically align machines back to original specifications.
  • Follow and troubleshoot electrical schematics using digital voltmeters and oscilloscopes to trace faults to the source.
  • Troubleshoot axis feedback systems including inductosyn, resolver, encoder, and linear scales.
  • Work with CNC control diagnostics — Siemens, Fanuc, and Heidenhain — to identify and resolve machine control issues.
  • Conduct linear accuracy checks using laser equipment and circularity checks using Renishaw ball bar.
  • Order parts needed to complete repairs.
  • Coordinate with machine service organizations when the situation calls for outside expertise.
  • Keep maintenance records accurate and current.
  • Identify and eliminate waste in maintenance processes — always looking for the smarter approach and seeking additional work when capacity allows.
  • Build close working relationships with operators, supervisors, production control, and fellow maintenance personnel.
