Machine Maintenance Technician

Mach Industries•Huntington Beach, CA
•$38 - $48•Onsite

About The Position

Mach Industries is seeking a Machine Maintenance Technician to own the preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of our CNC machines and supporting manufacturing equipment. You will ensure our equipment remains safe, reliable, and capable of supporting both rapid development and production operations. This is a hands-on role requiring strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, practical experience servicing CNC equipment, and the ability to independently manage maintenance priorities across a growing machine shop. You will establish maintenance schedules, diagnose machine alarms and alignment issues, complete repairs, and coordinate with equipment manufacturers when specialized service is required. Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and Quality, you will help reduce unplanned downtime and prevent recurring equipment failures.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing CNC machine tools, gained through an in-house maintenance role, machine-tool field service, or a comparable position.
  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems on CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis equipment.
  • Practical experience troubleshooting automatic tool changers, spindle systems, turret indexing, machine alignment, and common CNC alarms.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, service manuals, and machine diagnostic information.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement and diagnostic equipment, including dial indicators, test bars, and electrical test instruments appropriate to the work performed.
  • Ability to independently organize preventive maintenance, prioritize equipment breakdowns, document repairs, and communicate equipment status and recovery plans.
  • Working knowledge of safe machine servicing, hazardous-energy isolation, and the limits of work requiring specialized training or manufacturer support.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience servicing DMG MORI, Okuma, Brother, Haas, or comparable CNC machine tools, particularly five-axis mills and mill-turn equipment.
  • Familiarity with Siemens, FANUC, or Okuma OSP controls, including alarm histories, input/output diagnostics, and basic PLC troubleshooting.
  • Experience checking spindle runout, tool retention, machine geometry, and alignment following maintenance or a machine incident.
  • Experience establishing a preventive maintenance program or using a computerized maintenance management system to track assets, work orders, service history, and spare parts.
  • Experience supporting laser equipment, waterjets, automation, or other manufacturing equipment beyond CNC machines.
  • Technical training, an apprenticeship, or manufacturer service certifications in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or machine-tool repair.

Responsibilities

  • Own preventive maintenance across CNC mills, lathes, multi-axis machining centers, and supporting shop equipment. Develop and execute maintenance schedules based on manufacturer recommendations, equipment usage, and operating conditions.
  • Diagnose and resolve machine alarms, tool-change faults, spindle issues, axis positioning faults, and mechanical or electrical failures using machine diagnostics, service documentation, and systematic troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoot tool changer, turret, and spindle alignment issues. Perform adjustments and recovery procedures within manufacturer guidelines, escalating complex repairs when necessary.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair lubrication, coolant, hydraulic, pneumatic, filtration, and chip-handling systems, including associated pumps, sensors, hoses, valves, and connections.
  • Investigate abnormal noise, vibration, temperature, leaks, and repeat alarms. Identify underlying causes and implement corrective actions rather than relying on repeated resets or temporary fixes.
  • Coordinate manufacturer and third-party service visits, communicate fault history and diagnostic findings, manage repair follow-through, and verify completed service work.
  • Verify machine function following maintenance, repairs, or suspected collision events. Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to confirm alignment, accuracy, and readiness before returning equipment to production.
  • Maintain an equipment register, maintenance calendar, service records, and critical spare-parts inventory. Track downtime and recurring issues to prioritize reliability improvements.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment, including maintenance planning, service documentation, and coordination with Facilities and equipment suppliers.
  • Train operators on routine equipment checks, proper machine care, and early warning signs. Perform maintenance using established lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and manufacturer service procedures.
