About The Position

This internship combines machine learning research with applied machine learning and software engineering. Research topics focus on trust and safety in large language models, including prompt injections, safety alignment and guardrails, privacy and confidentiality, and interpretability. Other topics more closely aligned with the student's research may also be considered. The internship is expected to last at least three months and overlap with most of the period from January through the end of March 2027.

Requirements

  • Research experience, including the ability to formulate relevant questions, consult existing literature or plan and conduct experiments, and read and write research papers and technical articles.
  • PhD student or student at any level with research experience and peer-reviewed published work.
  • Experience with machine learning tools such as PyTorch, Hugging Face, Transformers, and Datasets.
  • Applied deep learning and large language model experience, including training and evaluating deep models.
  • Experience with Unix, Git, basic cloud usage on AWS and/or GCP, and Jupyter.
  • Python programming experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the USA or be able to obtain Curricular Practical Training (CPT) approval from the host university.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience fine-tuning large language models or working with multimodal large language models.
  • Familiarity with interpretability methods in machine learning, NLP, LLMs, or vision, including sparse autoencoders and linear probes.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of programming languages, including experience with statically typed and functional languages.

Benefits
