Machine Learning Engineer

Peraton•Annapolis Junction, MD
•$135,000 - $216,000

About The Position

The team supports a suite of web-based applications that automate data management for IC data custodians. These products facilitate the capture of information and approvals that allow data to move through the customer mission space in a compliant manner. They are critical to standardizing and simplifying data movement, data reuse, and integration with downstream tools. The Machine Learning Engineer designs, creates, tests, and productizes AI/ML algorithms to solve business challenges. Models must learn and make predictions according to business logic developed to meet customer requirements. The role requires proficiency in model architecture, data pipeline interaction, metrics application, interpretation, and presentation, along with familiarity with application development, infrastructure management, data engineering, and data governance. The engineer trains, retrains, deploys, schedules, monitors, and improves models based on iterative user and system feedback to create scalable solutions with optimal performance. The role also involves leading geographically diverse teams and often serving as a primary point of contact for AI-related matters.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with current polygraph.
  • Two years of experience in applied machine learning on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in advanced mathematics (such as calculus, linear algebra, or Bayesian statistics), computer science, or a related STEM discipline from an accredited college or university; alternatively, three additional years of machine learning experience on projects with similar machine learning processes may substitute for the degree.
  • Proficiency in model architecture, data pipeline interaction, metrics application, interpretation, and presentation.
  • Familiarity with foundational concepts of application development, infrastructure management, data engineering, and data governance.
  • Experience training, retraining, deploying, scheduling, monitoring, and improving models based on iterative user and system feedback.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Expert knowledge of multiple programming languages, such as Python, Java, C++, and R.
  • Jupyter notebooks.
  • PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.
  • Agent orchestration and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation).
  • AWS Bedrock.

Responsibilities

  • Design, create, test, and productize AI/ML algorithms to solve business challenges.
  • Develop models capable of learning and making predictions according to business logic and customer requirements.
  • Apply expertise in model architecture, data pipeline interaction, metrics, interpretation, and presentation.
  • Train, retrain, deploy, schedule, monitor, and improve models based on iterative user and system feedback.
  • Support the design and creation of scalable solutions for optimal performance.
  • Lead geographically diverse teams and often serve as a primary point of contact for AI-related matters.

Benefits

  • Heavily subsidized employee benefits coverage for the employee and dependents.
  • 25 days of PTO accrued annually, up to a generous PTO cap.
  • Eligibility to participate in an attractive bonus plan.
