About The Position
Apple’s Strategic Data Solutions (SDS) team works to mitigate monetary losses, ensure financial-crimes regulatory compliance, optimize business processes, and improve the customer journey across its programs. The team seeks an individual to craft, implement, and operate analytical solutions with measurable impact on Apple and its customers. The Machine Learning Engineer will design, build, and maintain compliance services used by internal and external stakeholders, supporting strategic impact across multiple lines of business. The role uses tools and platforms including Python, Clojure, Splunk, SQL, and Spark. It addresses challenges arising from customer privacy, changing regulatory requirements, and the scale of Apple’s business by applying and developing data science methods that deliver business value.
Requirements
- Education in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics, or equivalent professional experience.
- Practical experience with and theoretical understanding of classification, regression, clustering, and anomaly-detection algorithms.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, including SQL, and large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop and Spark.
- Ability to implement analytical pipelines and applications in a general-purpose programming language such as Python, Scala, Java, or Clojure.
- Experience with financial-crimes compliance, such as AML, KYC, sanctions screening, or transaction monitoring.
- Experience with model explainability, documentation, and auditability in regulated environments.
- Ability to comprehend and debug complex system integrations spanning toolchains and teams.
- Ability to extract meaningful business insights from data and identify stories behind patterns.
- Excellent presentation skills, including distilling complex analysis and concepts into concise, business-focused takeaways.
- Creativity in engineering novel features and signals and pushing beyond current tools and approaches.
- Experience with Splunk or similar log analytics tools.
Responsibilities
- Engage with business teams to identify opportunities, understand compliance requirements, and translate those requirements into technical solutions.
- Design data science approaches for compliance problems, applying established techniques or developing custom algorithms as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers and platform architects to implement robust, real-time and batch compliance decisioning solutions in production.
- Monitor production decision points to ensure operational, regulatory, and business metric health.
- Investigate emerging risk typologies and regulatory changes, identify behavior patterns, and respond with agile logic updates.
- Communicate analysis results to business partners and executives.
- Partner with teams across Apple to identify additional opportunities and services that improve loss avoidance and the overall customer experience.
