About The Position

Manchester Industries, a Clearwater Paper Company, is opening a new production facility in Columbia, South Carolina, expected to begin operations by the end of October. This is an opportunity to join the team during a growth phase and help shape a new site. Manchester Industries provides paperboard sales, sheeting, and distribution services, serving industries such as commercial printing, publishing, point of purchase display, specialty packaging, and folding cartons since 1978. They use precision converting technology to supply paperboard grades from leading mills to paper merchants and packaging companies. With five strategic locations and extensive manufacturing and warehousing space, they utilize various machinery for converting paperboard. The company aims to provide an exceptional service platform through committed employees and collaborative solutions with customers and suppliers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required)
  • Completion of a pre-employment assessment upon application.
  • Minimum 2 years continuous full-time work experience or have been a full-time student (required)
  • Understand and comply with all manufacturing safety procedures including personal protective equipment (required)
  • Able to work in a physically demanding environment including temperature extremes, loud noise, avoiding slipping, tripping, and falling hazards.
  • Physically capable of manual labor that includes bending, walking, sitting, and climbing in and around machinery and equipment for an entire 12-hour shift.
  • Able to lift, up to 40 lbs frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs occasionally, and over 50 lbs minimally. When lifting 50 lbs and above, the Operator will use team lifting and overhead crane assistance.
  • Work environment includes exposure to compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulic fluid.
  • Able to work an 8-hour shift Monday-Friday.
  • Able to work overtime as needed, including weekends and Holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Performing duties as a roll tender or wrapper/bander, assisting Machine Operators in the production of sheeted skids of paperboard.
  • Working with minimal supervision and communicating effectively with production and office personnel.
  • Helping in the Wrapper/Bander area for the final phase in the manufacturing process of the product.
  • Confirming skids to order and preparing skids for delivery and/or storage in compliance with quality and customer specifications, staging skids for use.
  • Staging completed orders in the warehouse according to job number and customer, in a manner to assure easy retrieval for shipment and proper spacing according to established procedures.
  • Properly wrapping and banding skids with the proper operation and use of approved tools such as pliers and pallet jacks, responsible for plier set-up.
  • Assisting other wrapper/banders as necessary, assisting in training new Machine Helpers.
  • Performing minor maintenance activities and working closely with Maintenance Technician as needed.
  • Conducting routine inspections of equipment based on preventative maintenance routes/check sheets/frequencies.
  • Attending and applying training provided by the Company, both job and department specific.
  • Recognizing errors and problems with delivered materials, actively troubleshooting top problems, and escalating unresolved issues with a focus to ensure inventory accuracy and receipt of goods.
  • Confirming rolls to order and preparing rolls for use, including the preparation of leftover rolls to return to inventory and storage.
  • Loading rolls into roll stand, splicing rolls as needed.
  • Responsible for the core splitter operation.
  • Assisting other Roll Tenders as necessary, assisting in the training of new Machine Helpers.
  • Holding self and others to a high level of safety standards, ensuring workplace safety policies are upheld and safety rules are followed (lockout/tagout procedures, safe driving practices, appropriate PPE, etc.).
  • Participating as needed in safety incidents and helping investigate the root cause.
  • Maintaining a clean working environment by complying with procedures and housekeeping responsibilities, and properly disposing of waste.
  • Operating, maintaining, and inspecting equipment to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, procedural reporting, and safety requirements.
  • Acting in a manner consistent with company values and attitudes.
