About The Position

Newell Brands Winchester site is seeking a hands-on engineering role responsible for the design, build, and commissioning support of custom equipment and machines. This position owns mechanical designs from concept through startup and is actively involved during fabrication, assembly, and debug to ensure equipment functions reliably in real-world operation. This role is structured as overtime-eligible to align with the hands-on nature of machine builds and commissioning activities. It is intended for an experienced engineer who prefers direct technical contribution and close involvement with equipment execution.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience designing and building electromechanical systems
• Background in custom part design, including design-quote-procure-build workflows
• Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar).
• Ability to create and interpret detailed mechanical drawings and equipment specifications
• Ability to conduct mechanical failure mode assessments and contribute to machine safety reviews, including initial concept safety viability decision-making
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (controls, electrical, fabrication, EHS, maintenance, operations, etc.).
• Basic project management skills, including schedules, budgets, and vendor coordination
• Strong communication, troubleshooting, problem solving, and documentation skills
• Comfort working in manufacturing environment and providing hands-on build support
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrable experience designing custom machinery or equipment, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret technical documentation and schematics
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-changing manufacturing environment
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written English)

Nice To Haves

• Welding, machining, sheet-metal fabrication, or additive manufacturing (3D printing)
• Experience with aluminum extrusion systems (80/20), weldments, and strength-of-materials selection
• Component and Systems Integration experience, Prototyping, Multi-subsystem Testing and Validation, FAT/SAT Verification Criteria
• Experience designing and integrating automated machinery with sensors, pneumatics, robotics, grippers, power transmission, hydraulics, and other motion components.
• Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, PEAK, or Continuous Improvement experience
• Experience identifying or developing equipment standards and preferred component libraries.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical designs for custom equipment from concept, detailed design, and release to production
• Produce 3D CAD models, release manufacturing drawings, and complete Bills of Material
• Select components and materials with attention to DFM, reliability, safety, cost, and serviceability
• Support fabrication, assembly, debug, and startup activities directly on the shop floor
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, electromechanical, and basic electrical (24VDC) issues during equipment build and operation
• Lead or participate in design reviews, safety reviews, and fabrication readiness checks
• Coordinate with Controls Engineers, Electricians, and Technicians to execute equipment builds
• Maintain accurate project documentation, drawings, troubleshooting guides, operating manuals, while utilizing and maintaining proper revision control
• Execute small to mid-scale CapEx projects including vendor coordination and component procurement
• Identify design improvements that increase equipment safety, quality, or reduce downtime
• Participate in PEAK / Continuous Improvement through implementing design improvements
• Follow site safety policies and industry standards during design, build, and startup activities
• Other duties as assigned by management based on business need
