About The Position

Farmers Insurance is seeking an M365 Engineering Leader to provide hands-on technical leadership, people management, and operational excellence across Microsoft 365. This role will lead a team of M365 Solution Engineers who design, deliver, and operate enterprise M365 services. This leader is a hands-on engineer and technical authority who earns credibility through platform depth, architectural judgment, and practical problem-solving. They also bring strong people leadership, SAFe delivery, operational rigor, and change management to keep M365 secure, reliable, scalable, and adopted across the enterprise. (Internal position title: Program Manager III)

Requirements

  • 5+ years hands-on M365 engineering experience, including 3–5 years in a technical lead or engineering leadership role.
  • Hands-on engineering depth across multiple M365 pillars (design/build/deliver at enterprise scale), including: Exchange Online, mail flow, SMTP relay, hybrid routing, mail security; Teams (chat, meetings, voice/calling, Rooms), SharePoint Online, OneDrive; Entra ID, Intune (MDM/MAM), Purview, DLP, Conditional Access, eDiscovery; Power Platform (Power Apps, Automate, BI, Dataverse), Copilot Studio; Microsoft Copilot (M365 Copilot, Copilot Chat): governance, deployment, enablement.
  • SAFe Agile experience within an ART, including PI Planning and agile delivery leadership.
  • People leadership experience managing skilled engineers/SMEs and building high-performing teams.
  • Operations leadership: SLA ownership, incident/change management, and reliability at enterprise scale.
  • PowerShell scripting and automation for administration, bulk operations, and workflows.
  • Strong M365 security, compliance, and governance knowledge (classification, DLP, retention, identity).
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proven builder and problem-solver across multiple M365 pillars.
  • Leads experienced engineers with credibility, empathy, and technical authority.
  • Operates confidently within a scaled agile ART environment.
  • Owns SLAs, incident management, and platform reliability with rigor.
  • Ensures engineering delivery supports enterprise adoption and smooth transitions.
  • Tracks and communicates engineering KPIs to leadership clearly and consistently.
  • Ensures all M365 solutions are compliant, secure, and well-governed.
  • Actively identifies and drives engineering process and platform improvements.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance/financial services experience in regulated environments (CPRA/retention, legal hold/eDiscovery).
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., M365 Enterprise Administrator Expert, Teams Admin, Security Admin) or equivalent.
  • Experience with Farmers’ multi-tenant M365 environment (Corporate and Agency/Apex), B2B federation, partner domains.
  • Large-scale migrations (e.g., Box to OneDrive/SharePoint, Webex to Teams, on-prem Exchange to EXO, MobileIron to Intune).
  • Familiarity with Azure services and integrations (Entra ID, Blob storage, Azure DevOps).
  • Copilot Studio agent governance in regulated environments (intake, classification review, ARB, lifecycle).
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent, relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across Microsoft 365, including: Communication (Exchange Online, SMTP relay, mail flow, hybrid routing, mail security), Collaboration (Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive), Productivity (Microsoft 365 Apps, Outlook, Loop, Viva Insights/Engage), AI & Automation (Copilot, Copilot Studio, Power Platform), Identity, Compliance & Security (Entra ID, Intune, Purview, DLP, AIP, eDiscovery, Conditional Access), Mobility (Intune MDM/MAM and mobile device lifecycle).
  • Serve as the escalation point and technical authority for complex issues, architecture decisions, and major incidents.
  • Set engineering standards, governance, and operational practices to ensure consistency, quality, and security.
  • Translate Microsoft roadmap changes into delivery plans aligned to enterprise needs.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of M365 Solution Engineers; set clear expectations, rhythms, and performance standards.
  • Build an engineering culture of craftsmanship, learning, collaboration, and operational pride.
  • Run regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and growth conversations; partner with HR/CPE leadership on development and planning.
  • Coach and lead through technical credibility, and promote cross-training and knowledge sharing to build a resilient, multi-capable team.
  • Lead teams in SAFe ceremonies (PI Planning, sprints, system demos, Inspect & Adapt).
  • Partner with Product Management/Owners to define, estimate, and prioritize the backlog aligned to ART commitments.
  • Drive agile engineering practices (Definition of Done, CI/CD discipline, acceptance criteria, velocity tracking).
  • Own end-to-end delivery from design through deployment, integration, testing, and L3/L4 support.
  • Own reliability, availability, and incident management to meet SLAs (target 98%+ compliance) across Corporate and Agency tenants.
  • Lead major migrations and rollouts (cloud moves, tenant consolidation, modernization, new capabilities).
  • Lead engineering for SMTP services (mail relay, app integrations, hybrid/cloud routing, agent mail).
  • Drive continual service improvement through prioritized process and platform enhancements.
  • Define and track KPIs (uptime, MTTR, incident volume, SLA compliance, deployment velocity, quality).
  • Produce weekly status and executive summaries on delivery progress and platform health.
  • Connect delivery metrics to business outcomes (productivity, cost avoidance, adoption).
  • Partner with Product and Change Management to align engineering readiness to adoption plans.
  • Lead technical change management for releases (impact, CAB, rollout/rollback, validation).
  • Ensure new capabilities are engineered for usability, accessibility, and a strong employee experience.
  • Build strong partnerships with Architecture, Security, Operations, and business technology teams.
  • Serve as technical point of contact for Microsoft engineering/FastTrack; coordinate escalations and roadmap sessions.
  • Manage vendors/contractors supporting delivery (performance, quality, escalations).
  • Represent CPE Engineering in ARB/CAB and governance reviews; ensure changes are documented and risk-assessed.
