The Licensed Vocational/Practice Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to varied patient populations and their families. This role is integral to the Department, ensuring smooth outpatient flow for optimum patient satisfaction and clinic operation. The position involves escorting patients to exam rooms, obtaining and recording vital signs and medication lists, monitoring patient flow, assisting physicians with minor clinical procedures, performing EKGs, preparing patient charts with pertinent medical information, administering medication, and prescription management. Responsibilities also include scheduling diagnostic tests and surgeries, performing administrative duties such as answering and returning phone calls, managing faxes, and obtaining prior authorizations. The nurse must ensure patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality, maintain a safe environment in accordance with standards and regulations, and comply with infection control policies. The role requires flexibility, enthusiasm, a proactive approach, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work efficiently under pressure and in a team environment, and comfort with computers. Travel throughout the Keck Medicine of USC Community is expected to cover practice integrations, vacations, illnesses, holidays, and leaves of absence. Hours may vary depending on assignments. The LVN/LPN will use and practice basic assessment, participate in planning, execute interventions, and contribute to the evaluation of individualized care plans. They will provide direct patient care, administer medications, and demonstrate professional communication skills for patient care, education, and collaboration. Chart preparation, exam room setup, and assistance with exams are also key duties. Basic administrative tasks, handling telephone calls, writing correspondence, and serving as a liaison between physicians and others are expected. The role involves implanting effective and efficient patient flow, performing first aid and CPR if needed, and assisting physicians with exams and treatments as permitted by license. The ability to work independently and in a team setting to accomplish duties in a timely manner is crucial. Triage of patients in person and over the telephone is required. Scheduling diagnostic tests and surgeries, taking patient histories and vital signs, documenting in the EMR, and organizing pharmacy refill requests for physician approval are also part of the role. Recording patient information in the chart/EHR according to regulatory standards is essential.
