About The Position

The Licensed Vocational/Practice Nurse (LVN/LPN) will serve as an integral part of the Department, ensuring smooth outpatient flow for optimum patient satisfaction and clinic operation. This role utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to varied patient populations and their families. Responsibilities include escorting patients to exam rooms, obtaining and recording vital signs and medication lists, monitoring patient flow, assisting physicians with minor clinical procedures, performing EKGs, preparing patient charts with pertinent medical information, administering medications, and managing prescriptions as directed by the physician. The LVN/LPN will also schedule diagnostic tests and surgeries, perform administrative duties such as answering and returning phone calls, handling faxes, and obtaining prior authorizations. Maintaining patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality, along with a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations, and ensuring compliance with infection control policies are crucial. The position requires flexibility, enthusiasm, a proactive approach, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work efficiently under pressure and in a team environment, and comfort with computers. The role also involves willingness to travel throughout the Keck Medicine of USC Community to cover various practice needs, with potentially varying hours depending on assignments. Requirements

  • High school or equivalent
  • Graduate from an accredited Vocational Nursing Program
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.
  • Familiarity with word processing, Microsoft Outlook, Cerner, and navigate the intranet.
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse - LVN (CA DCA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
  • LVN - Intravenous Therapy Certification (CA DCA) IV certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire

  • 2 years Experience in an acute care or ambulatory care, or surgical setting.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms.
  • Obtain and appropriately record patient vital signs/medication list.
  • Monitor patient flow.
  • Assist physicians with minor clinical procedures.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Prepare patient chart with pertinent medical information.

  • Ensure patient's right to privacy, safety, and confidentiality is maintained.
  • Maintain a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control policies.
  • Use and practice basic assessment, participate in planning, execute interventions in accordance with the plan of care or treatment plan, and contribute to evaluation of individualized interventions related to the care plan or treatment plan.
  • Provide direct patient care.
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills for the purpose of patient care, education and multidisciplinary team collaboration.
  • Set up exam rooms, assist physician with exams as needed.
  • Handle telephone calls and write correspondences.
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians and other individuals.
  • Implant an effective and efficient patient flow.
  • Perform first aid and CPR if needed.
  • Assist physicians with exams and treatments as permitted by license.
  • Triage patients in person and over the telephone.
  • Take patient histories and vital signs and document accordingly in the EMR.
  • Organize pharmacy refill requests for physician approval.
  • Record patient information in chart/EHR according to regulatory standards.
  • Travel throughout the Keck Medicine of USC Community to cover practice integrations, vacations, illnesses, holidays, and leave of absences.

Benefits

  • The hourly rate range for this position is $29.12 - $49.66.
