About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director, renders professional nursing care in accordance with physician's treatment plans and standards of practice/care. In doing so, assesses patient's condition, plans patient care, administers prescribed drugs, provides treatments, provides appropriate patient education, evaluate patient's progress, records pertinent observations and report responses to drugs and treatments. Assists with examinations and prepares instruments and equipment. An advocate for patients in order to achieve the best possible outcome.

Requirements

  • Current LVN permit or licensure issued by the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners of the State of Texas
  • Current BLS with American Heart Association and NRP

Nice To Haves

  • One year clinical experience as an LVN is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess postpartum vaginal delivery and cesarean sections and their newborn after admission assessments are complete. Registered Nurse must assess once in every 24 hour period.
  • Provide postpartum and newborn care for all patients.
  • Assist with transitioning of newborn infants.
  • Manage pain control needs for postpartum and newborns. Assist Registered Nurse in monitoring need for IV narcotic medication as needed for pain control.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate an individualized and specific discharge plan of care based on an assessment of the patient and family/significant other's needs.
  • Documents assessment, treatments, labs, and progress in the patient's record.
  • Assist Registered Nurse with infusion of blood products for postpartum patients.
  • Assist with admission and discharge processes.
  • Can fulfill the duties of a unit assistant, if necessary.
  • Assist with coverage in Women & Children's Clinic as assigned.
