About The Position

The Family Birth Center RN provides direct patient care in the Labor and Delivery, Post-Partum and Nursery care setting (LDRP). The incumbent applies the nursing process within their scope of practice as defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Work includes assessing, developing, and implementing an individualized plan of care in collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary teams and the patient and family throughout the LDRP and Nursery care phases.

Requirements

  • Current Oregon Registered Nurse license without restriction
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (CPR) required
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP®)
  • Current S.T.A.B.L.E. learner course
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring or NCC-EFM required within 6 months of hire
  • Minimum one-year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience Preferred.

  • Ability to operate and monitor relevant equipment within Birth Center services.
  • Ability to interpret, prepare and maintain patient information using the electronic medical record.
  • Skilled in making sound decisions and practicing critical thinking, especially when responding to urgent and emergent situations.
  • Skilled in therapeutic communication with the ability explain complex medical topics.
  • Skilled in performing service recovery to promote a positive patient experience, addressing complaints before they become grievances and escalating issues to supervisors for resolution as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of health equity and ability to provide age-specific, culturally competent care that considers the patient’s physical, psychosocial, and socioeconomic needs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compassionate, collaborative, and professional nursing care throughout the Labor and Delivery, Post-Partum and Nursery care phases as assigned by the supervisor/manager or designee.
  • Organize patient care by prioritizing, delegating, delivering, and evaluating care on an ongoing and timely basis.
  • Gather and interpret patient information with accuracy; perform and document nursing assessments; verify presence of all necessary pre-op / pre-procedure records.
  • Implement appropriate patient interventions, evaluate outcomes and document care delivered and patient status.
  • Administer, oversee and document the safe administration of medications and treatments.
  • Consult with providers and supervisors (e.g. Charge Nurse, Manager or designee) as appropriate to determine best treatment plans for patients.
  • Provide healthcare education and guidance to patients and families in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Advocate for the ethical and holistic care of patients from diverse backgrounds promoting autonomy, dignity, and health.
  • Contribute to assigned work unit by demonstrating a commitment to competent professional nursing practice and engaging in opportunities for professional growth.
  • Stay informed about professional trends and adhere to policies, procedures, and standards of care, including safety / risk management, regulatory requirements, and AWHONN guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities for, and actively participate in, performance and quality improvement activities to improve clinical outcomes, healthcare delivery systems, and address patient safety and satisfaction.
