About The Position

Dignity Health - Mercy San Juan Medical Center is seeking a Family Birth Center (FBC) Registered Nurse (RN) to deliver compassionate, high-quality care. The Family Birth Center operates as a Level 3 High Risk Facility for the greater Sacramento Dignity Hospitals, equipped with 28 beds, including labor beds, operating rooms, PACU, triage bays, and a private Mother-Baby unit. The center is Joint Commission Certified for Perinatal Care and committed to the 10 steps for successful breastfeeding. As a high-risk facility, it frequently receives antepartum patient transfers from across Northern California, averaging 150 deliveries monthly. The FBC is supported by a robust team including Nurse Shift Managers, a Perinatal Safety Specialist, a Perinatal Certified Nurse Specialist, an in-house OB hospitalist, and a designated OB anesthesiologist. The Level III NICU is adjoined to the FBC for essential support. The RN will leverage expertise to provide individualized, comprehensive care, making critical assessments, performing skilled procedures, and implementing patient care plans for a diverse patient population. Collaboration within an interdisciplinary team is crucial for optimal patient outcomes, especially in a high-risk setting. The role involves close coordination with support staff to ensure the highest level of care. Success in this role requires keen assessment skills, acute critical thinking, a patient-first mindset, and enthusiasm for helping others, particularly those facing high-risk pregnancies or deliveries. Requirements

  • Minimum One (1) year of Labor & Delivery and Postpartum RN experience from an accredited hospital
  • Fetal monitoring experience
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification - American Heart Association
  • Current NRP certificate
  • NCC fetal monitoring certificate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring course completion within twelve (12) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs total body and system assessment each shift/visit according to unit standards.
  • Includes planning, implementing, evaluating and educating patients.
  • Utilizes technology, procedures, protocols, standards and interventions specific to the assigned unit.
  • Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures. Proficient and competent with the computerized documentation system.
  • Accepts responsibility and accountability for own decisions and behaviors. Recognizes, accepts and cooperates with direction from facility leadership.
  • Participates in orientation of new staff, ancillary personnel and mentors students in a constructive and positive manner. Serves as a resource to staff from other nursing departments.
