About The Position

Responsible for supporting, strengthening and expanding existing LUCOM curriculum and fellows skill in the clinical application and teaching of Anatomy and OPP/OMM. Under supervision of the LUCOM faculty, the Fellow will assist in the instruction and teaching of undergraduate osteopathic medical students, the delivery of osteopathic medical care to patients, scholarly activity and research in the fields of osteopathy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work under the direction and supervision of the Dean, Department Chair, or Professor to whom assigned. Be present for all necessary events put on by the department and the Graduate School. Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the Graduate Assistantship Handbook; uphold the Graduate Student Honor Code; LUCOM Student Handbook maintain agreement with the Liberty University Doctrinal Statement. Assist with teaching in the Anatomy and OMM lab sessions, as determined by the supervisor, and additional help sessions as scheduled. Assist with practical examinations and evaluations preparation, delivery, grading), where applicable, and development of teaching materials (prosections, video training modules, etc.). MSFs shall assist in presentation of lecture subject matter and attend OMM and Anatomy lectures as assigned. May conduct approved research/publication project over course of the academic year. Assist with OMS-III student-doctors as they rotate bi-weekly through the OMM rotation. Assist with OMS-IV student-doctors during the OMM Pain Course. Be available to tutor student-doctors at least four hours each week. MSFs in OMM shall assist with Clinical Medicine, Standardized Patients and Simulation evaluations as directed. Additional responsibilities/requests as assigned. Participants must pass COMLEX-I on first attempt (may be selected for program prior to this requirement but if requirement is not met, participant must step down). Consistent with LUCOM policy requirements of all students, Fellows must sit for COMLEX-I no later than June 30th of their OMS-II year of study. Participants must never have been on suspension and/or probation. Good academic standing is required. Please note that MSFs will be considered to be enrolled half-time, making them eligible for loans, if desired. LUCOM tuition and fees will be waived for the fellowship year only. Resignations prior to the completion of the MSF contract may result in ineligibility for re-hire until the next contracted academic year. Students can apply for conference presentations through LU Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Assist the department with miscellaneous administrative tasks/projects and any other various responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Good standing in LUCOM and successful completion of OMS I and OMS II curriculum
  • Passing of COMPLEX Level One
  • Understanding of experimental and analytical research
  • Proficient with Microsoft excel
  • Competency in Report writing
  • Competency with Public speaking
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language.
  • Ability to perform many tasks in a short period of time.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staffs at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
  • May be required to transport oneself to other campus offices, conference rooms, and on occasion, to off-campus sites to attend meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.
  • May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of siting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
  • Maybe required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies to include, but not limited to pens, pencils, calculators, computer keyboards, telephone, etc.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office, e-mail, etc.
