About The Position

The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, electronic modules, pedestals, and power and cooling systems. The department comprises individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support. The Radar Mechanical Design Department is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the LTAMDS (Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor) Deployment, Feilding and Sustainment team. LTAMDS is a recent Raytheon Technologies franchise program that will deliver a next generation radar with 360-degree visibility to defeat advanced threats including hypersonic weapons. As the LTAMDS program is expanding, production is increasing, and radars are fielded, the Deployment, Fielding & Sustainment Organization is growing its Hardware Team. The LTAMDS Hardware Engineer will work closely with the IPT Lead and support the plan and execution of the sustainment strategy of fielded and soon-to-be fielded systems including on-site support staff, field maintenance support, technology upgrades, material procurement, return & repair and technical engineering support. This Principal Mechanical Engineer role is on-site either in Marlborough or Tewksbury, MA.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in areas such as the design of radar architecture, electronics packaging or field sustainment for military or aerospace or commercial applications.
  • Experience presenting program and technical issues to senior stakeholders.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the LTAMDS program and products.
  • Experience collaborating with cross functional teams including members from Engineering, Operations, Global Supply Chain, and/or Quality through hardware development, production and test including system test.
  • Experience in Sustainment and lifecycle engineering disciplines specifically training, technical manuals and logistics.
  • Experience in Engineering Tools / Test Equipment Proficiency with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience in practice.
  • Experience executing DoD sustainment and/or product support activities.
  • Experience with radar and/or sensor systems, or other advanced electronic systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with senior levels of leadership effectively – including customer, teammates, and suppliers.
  • Champion all of RTX’s values while managing multiple and competing priorities.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Willing to Travel up to 25% to install / oversee Hardware upgrades when design changes occur (CONUS / OCONUS).
  • Collaborate with the senior IPT Leadership, Program Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Operations teams to plan and execute sustainment strategy in the areas of logistics, training, technical manuals, hardware and software test integration.
  • Apply disciplined program management processes and utilize tools to establish and monitor metrics and trends to ensure excellence in execution.
  • Balance cost and schedule, while delivering a product which is compliant with the contract. This involves developing solutions which are the best fit for the overall program performance, supportability and long-term sustainment.
  • Utilize both Mechanical and Electrical Expertise to support the program.
  • Onboard rapidly minimizing the Radar IPT Support.
  • Hands on Tactical Hardware experience (Test / Operational).
  • Generate Work Instructions based on HW upgrades with multiple fielded configurations.
  • Generate change requests, Change Notices initially, Class 1 & Class 2 ECP as the program matures.
  • Generate Replace / Install instructions for failed items where Technical Manuals are not present.
  • Ability to perform viability assessments on fielded hardware, generate reports and suggested path forward with assessed risks and opportunities.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance to field personnel.
  • Perform Hardware trades such as backwards compatibility analysis and field impacts.
  • Flyaway support and Ability to work off hours when needed.
  • Provide CCB Approval and / or input for maintainability impact.
  • Customer communication and presentation skills – Partner with Customer Engineering team.
