About The Position

Under the direction of the physician/provider, provides nursing care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. This role involves implementing care, nursing interventions, and procedures as the patient progresses through the perianesthesia phase of care to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The LPN will maintain accurate documentation of nursing care, administer and record medications, perform assessments for PONV and pain, and provide care for pediatric and geriatric populations. Additionally, the LPN will ensure safe transfer of care, function as a role model for staff, and maintain current knowledge and licensure.

Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Knowledge of administering and recording of medications, including action, dose and side effects.
  • Ability to perform routine assessments for PONV and implement appropriate rescue treatments.
  • Ability to perform a comprehensive pain assessment using appropriate pain scales.
  • Knowledge in the care of the pediatric and geriatric population and their family/caregiver.
  • Ability to maintain current knowledge/certification/licensure.
  • Ability to pursue professional growth and attend all required training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures under the direction of the physician/provider.
  • Implements care, nursing interventions, and procedures necessary as the patient progresses through the perianesthesia phase of care to achieve optimal patient outcomes, under the direction of the RN.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the health care team, in order to endure quality of care.
  • Administers and records medications, demonstrating knowledge of commonly used medications: action, dose and side effects.
  • Demonstrates routine assessments for PONV and implements appropriate rescue treatments.
  • Performs a comprehensive pain assessment using appropriate pain scales and uses both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods to control pain.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in the care of the pediatric and geriatric population and their family/caregiver.
  • Provides for the safe transfer of care with a communication handoff to the next phase of care.
  • Functions as a role model for current and new staff.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
  • Pursues professional growth and attends all required training programs.
