About The Position

Genesis Cancer and Blood Institute is seeking a Part-Time LPN to assist physicians and RNs in the care of patients. This role involves administering chemotherapeutic agents, obtaining lab samples, performing technical laboratory procedures, managing outside lab submissions, performing port access procedures, administering shots, patient assessment, and thorough documentation in OncoEMR. The LPN will also be responsible for preparing superbills, educating patients and families, handling telephone triage, assisting with inventory and restocking of medical supplies, managing medications via Nucleus, attending mandatory meetings, and maintaining patient confidentiality. The position requires flexibility to work at any AON location and adherence to all relevant laws and company policies.

Requirements

  • Appropriate state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Experience in IV therapy in clinic or hospital is preferred.
  • If required within the state in which they work an approved 30 hour IV certification course would be mandatory or successful completion of 30 hour IV certification course within 90 days of employment.
  • Current CPR and BLS certification is required.
  • Fluency in the English language
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license in the resident state to travel to clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and accurately mix and administer chemotherapeutic agents to patients as ordered by AON physicians, under the direct supervision of the registered professional nurse, and at the discretion of the head nurse. Adhere to ONS standards and guidelines.
  • Accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and HRS guidelines.
  • Assist in obtaining lab samples.
  • Perform technical laboratory procedures in a timely manner with accuracy and precision, meeting the standards of all accrediting/regulatory agencies.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
  • Send outside labs to appropriate facility as dictated by patient’s insurance plan.
  • Assist in maintaining test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists according to all regulatory agencies.
  • Perform Port Access procedures appropriately.
  • Administer shots to patients after complete symptom assessment.
  • Responsible for patient assessment.
  • Thorough and accurate documentation in OncoEMR of treatment rendered to patients.
  • Accurately prepare superbill to charge patient for services received in office.
  • Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications.
  • Follow the AON I.D. policy and procedure with every patient encounter.
  • Educate patients and family about medications, side effects and planned treatment course when appropriate.
  • Interact with patient and family in a caring and professional manner.
  • Prioritize incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent.
  • Respond accordingly in an appropriate time frame for telephone triage.
  • Assist with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies, when called upon.
  • Recommend purchase of new items as needed.
  • Place stock in storage areas in a timely manner.
  • Have working knowledge of dispensing medications via Nucleus.
  • Perform cycle Nucleus count.
  • Restock medications within appropriate time frame.
  • Enter all appropriate patient charges into Nucleus.
  • Attend annual Safety / OSHA training meetings.
  • Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
  • Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times.
  • Assist in training new employees to related job duties.
  • Work at any AON location to help meet AON business needs.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
  • Adhere to AON and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
