About The Position

The Emergency Department LPN provides direct and indirect patient care to all age groups. The LPN implements and evaluates the patient care given. They will work with assigned nursing personnel, collaborate with other health care professionals, and coordinate ancillary staff. Administers nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties. Provides direct or indirect patient care to all developmental ages of patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of Practical Nursing, current Georgia license.
  • Nursing skills as defined by the laws governing the practice of nursing in the State of Georgia.
  • Active American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire
  • Active American Heart Association ACLS & PALS certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Two years’ experience as a LPN in a hospital setting.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Basic Computer Skills

  • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization.

  • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self-education, attends ongoing educational programs).
  • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
  • Responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Uses triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients.
  • Accurately assigns triage categories.
  • Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain.
  • Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.
  • Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately.
  • Ability to perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret the results of waived tests; takes appropriated action on waived test results.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
  • Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served.
  • Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
  • Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; includes family in teaching, as appropriate.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians and providers with procedures in the Emergency Department.
  • Assists the Emergency Department Nurse Manager in the development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement indicators to improve patient outcomes and the work environment.
  • Follows Code of Conduct policy.
  • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification when on duty; uses computerized time clock system correctly.
  • Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion.
  • Attends annual review and/or skills fair and department in-services, as scheduled.
  • Attempts to end conversations and other interactions in a positive manner; leaves others with a good impression of the Hospital Authority of Miller County and its employees.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
