An LPN performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. This role involves working with RNs and sharing responsibility for a team of patients, administering IV fluids and medications (including certain IV medications after certification), performing venipuncture for blood collection, inserting IV cannulas and foley catheters, conducting physical assessments, rounding with physicians, performing fingerstick blood sugars, directing staff in patient care, dressing wounds, and providing skin care.
