About The Position

This is a full-time position for an LPN/RN at the IRMC Physician Group's Dermatology office in Blairsville. The role involves direct patient care, assisting physicians, managing medical records, and ensuring a safe and efficient office environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Certified in basic CPR.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Advanced knowledge of first aid.
  • Advanced knowledge of equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office.
  • Advanced knowledge of clinical laboratory methods.
  • Advanced knowledge of universal blood and body fluid precautions.
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of established protocol for storing poisons, narcotics, acids, caustics, and flammable items.
  • Advanced knowledge of restrictions imposed by various managed care carriers.
  • Advanced knowledge of various forms inherent to the profession.
  • Advanced knowledge of patient confidentiality regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff members.
  • Ability to create a responsive caring environment for patients.
  • Ability to respond promptly to physician’s directions.
  • Ability to maintain medical records in a concise and accurate manner.
  • Ability to employ correct aseptic techniques in preparation of instruments & equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and escorts them to examination/procedure rooms.
  • Prepares patients for examination, records vital signs, weight, chief complaint, and other pertinent information.
  • Performs point-of-care lab testing and patient treatment as ordered by the physician.
  • Prepares patients for and assists physicians with treatments and procedures.
  • Collects specimens following established policies and ensures accurate processing.
  • Facilitates communication from internal and external sources and takes appropriate action.
  • Provides advice based on protocol and physician instruction and directs patients to the appropriate level of care.
  • Maintains a clean, safe environment and replenishes supplies.
  • Provides instruction and education to patients and families within scope of practice.
  • Administers medications by all routes.
  • Facilitates patient access to prescription refills, calling in prescriptions, obtaining prior authorization, and assisting with indigent programs.
  • Notifies physician when patient is ready for examination.
  • Organizes and maintains an inventory of medications, disposing of expired medications.
  • Assists in the completion of physician-required forms prior to examination.
  • Cleans and scrubs rooms and countertops nightly and when necessary.
  • Cleans, packages, and sterilizes instruments and procedure supplies.
  • Tracks all lab results and documents them in the chart.
  • Adheres to OSHA and sterilization guidelines.
  • Reviews charts for next day appointments and checks for pending lab or diagnostic test results.
  • Initials and files all patient-related correspondence within 24 hours of receipt.
  • Ensures all charts are appropriately filed at the end of each business day.
  • Records services rendered and checks for accuracy.
  • Completes physician orders for ancillary tests, surgeries, or specialist referrals.
  • Follows confidentiality and security rules when providing information to outside sources.
  • Directs patient to exit area post procedure.
  • Assists in the collection of statistical data for performance improvement or operational requirements.
  • Answers telephone, screens and directs incoming calls and messages, and answers patient inquiries.
  • Travels to other IPG offices when needed.
  • Performs any other services deemed reasonable by physician or practice manager.
