About The Position

The LPN Outpatient provides practical nursing support in a physician practice or clinic setting, assisting with patient care, clinical procedures, and coordination of services. Collaborates with healthcare providers and team members to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required, or a new graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam.
  • None (experience requirement).
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
  • Limited Radiologic Technician license required for roles performing radiology functions.
  • Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and computer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provides practical nursing support under the direction of a physician or advanced practice provider in a clinic setting.
  • Performs patient assessments, including vital signs, chief complaint, and medication reconciliation.
  • Prepares patients for provider evaluation, including specimen collection, positioning, and assistance during exams and procedures.
  • Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider.
  • Documents patient information accurately and timely in the electronic medical record, including treatment updates, medication refills, test results, and patient concerns.
  • Provides patient education related to medications, treatments, and follow-up care as directed by the provider.
  • Assists with referral authorizations and pre-authorizations for tests and ancillary services.
  • Maintains exam, treatment, and lab areas in a clean and safe condition and ensures supplies and equipment are available.
  • Performs laboratory-related tasks as applicable, including specimen collection, preparation, and basic testing following appropriate training and quality standards.
  • Performs radiology-related tasks as applicable, including assisting with imaging procedures and ensuring proper safety precautions and documentation.
  • Adheres to infection control, safety standards, and proper handling and disposal of specimens and materials.
  • Supports telehealth services, including tele-retinal and tele-dermatology setup as applicable.
