About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides outstanding, direct patient care under the supervision of an Registered Nurse (RN) with respect to patient expectations, cultural, spiritual and age-specific individual needs.

Requirements

  • Graduated of a Practical Nursing Program.
  • Meets unit specific care requirements; new graduates taken under consideration based on the needs of the unit.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure in the State of Florida.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
  • State of Florida approved thirty (30) hour IV Certification containing four (4) hours of instruction relevant to central lines within six (6) months of start date and maintained.
  • Additional certifications to meet unit specific care requirements.
  • Demonstrates effective and safe clinical practice as evidenced by completion of annual Competency Assessment.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with other members of the healthcare team and promotes effective team functioning.
  • Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and flexibility.
  • Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Administers medications and IV therapy to patients, as evidenced by Preceptor Observation Tool and Clinical Practice guidelines.
  • Documents all nursing care, change in condition, response to therapy, treatments, procedures, and referrals provided to each patient on the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Monitors patients as per established standards; gives patient summary reports to RN at start of shift ensures to oversee any reporting changes in patient status to RN throughout the shift.
  • Follows interdisciplinary plan of care, coordinated by the RN, based on current evidence- based practice.
  • Responds to call light in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes Health First computer systems for order entry, order inquiry, and patient documentation.
  • Provides patient, family, and/or caregiver education as directed by the plan of care.
  • Delivers service to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their needs, expectations, age, cultural, and individual differences.
  • Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores for department and medical center or written compliments by patients and others as well as consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report.
