About The Position

The Medical Assistant/Licensed Practical Nurse works to assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and quality care in the ambulatory setting . Responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related f unctions under the direction and supervision of their direct supervisor, medical director, Clinical Manager and/or Clinical Director. Provides a broad range of health care services. The medical assistants/LPNs may also be involved in the training and guidance of personnel. Provide patient care under supervision of a physician, NP, or registered nurse. This job description is a general description of the essential job functions . It is not intended to describe all the duties a LPN may perform.

Requirements

  • College education, or equivalent required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant or License Practical Nursing program .
  • Minimum of one (1) year relevant experience as a Certified Medical Assistant /Licensed Practical Nurse in an ambulatory setting .
  • High School Diploma or equivalent .
  • Current CPR Certification .
  • CMA or RMA /LPN preferred upon hire .
  • Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic health record.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to provide support to the members of the care team ( team work )
  • Must possess initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of medical records
  • Ability to provide support with compassion and respect for the individual.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, exhibit initiative, and exhibit proficiency within the department and across the division is .

  • Employee must have basic computer skills for office communication and management of patient information.
  • Employee must demonstrate discretion in dealing with medical, fiscal, and personnel information as is appropriate to position.
  • Frequently stands, walks, uses hands to handle or feel, reaches with hands and arms, bends, talks, and listens.
  • Sometimes sits , climbs , and s toops or kneels .
  • Lifts up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifti ng/and or carrying objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Potential for routine exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, etc.
  • Moderate noise level typical of a busy clinical office with office/medical equipment and foot traffic.

Nice To Haves

  • OB/GYN experience preferred.
  • Conversational Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, brief relevant history, including pain status, allergies, current medications, and any other pertinent information.
  • Administer medications and immunizations orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intradermally as ordered by provider, asking for assistance from RN or provider if unfamiliar with medication or procedure.
  • Review medical records for up-to-date problem list including patient reported medication and allergies, and diagnoses that are documented by providers.
  • Provide support and comfort to patients and families during clinic visits and procedures as needed, including chaperoning during sensitive examinations.
  • Participate in patient education by providing standardized, structured written/verbal information to patients regarding procedures, preparation for diagnostic tests, and chronic disease conditions as instructed by RN/MD. Refer patients who require further teaching interventions to an RN or provider.
  • Provide emergency care to patients when necessary using basic life support and automated defibrillator equipment, maintain basic CPR certification.
  • Assist providers with procedures including those requiring aseptic and sterile technique .
  • Assist with Quality measures.
  • Follow current infection control and or isolation procedure , clean exam tables, equipment, and other work areas according to guidelines.
  • Stock nursing stations, exam/procedure rooms as assigned, inventory specialty items and initiate reorder of supplies as needed. Ensure all supplies are up-to-date and replace expired materials as necessary
  • P articipates in meetings, assists with patient care, and special projects as needed.
