Indian River Hospital’s 4 South Medical Diabetes Unit is primarily a med/surg unit that also provides care to patients with an insulin drip. As an LPN on the team, you will assist fellow caregivers in providing exceptional, top-quality care to a diverse patient population. In this role, you can make a lasting difference in the lives of patients, all while enhancing your nursing skills through hands-on experience and numerous educational resources offered within the Cleveland Clinic system.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical or Vocational Nursing Program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Current Florida licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • IV Therapy Certificate within three months of hire
  • Knowledge of infection control practices
  • Knowledge of quality improvement practices

Nice To Haves

  • One year experience in an acute care setting OR three years of long-term care experience

Responsibilities

  • Involve patient/family in the development of care plan.
  • Prioritize and perform direct care to patients.
  • Explain and document procedures and interventions.
  • Identify and perform appropriately in emergent situations.
  • Assist multidisciplinary team with all processes related to patient care.
  • Delegate responsibilities to staff based on patient needs and staff competencies.
  • Utilize and document patient safety restraints per hospital policy.
  • Perform all IV skills including starts according to unit policy.
  • Document medications on medication administration record (MAR).
  • Monitor patient's response to medications and reports appropriately.
  • Report medication errors and adverse reactions per hospital policy.
  • Demonstrate knowledge concerning medications, including side effects.
  • Develop plan based on educational assessment.
  • Provide patients with discharge instructions/education and facilitates a safe discharge.
