The Diabetes Educator is a licensed health care professional responsible and accountable for providing diabetes education in the outpatient settings and through community and professional education services.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited program for a specific field of healthcare professional (Dietitian).
Current state licensure.
Minimum of three years clinical experience.
Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.

Nice To Haves

Additional diabetes education experience (inpatient and/or outpatient setting) highly preferred.
Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) strongly preferred. Applicants are encouraged to successfully complete the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist certification examination within 6 months of obtaining the required experience hours and not to exceed 2 years from date of hire.
Certification in Lifestyle Management, Stress Management or Weight Management is encouraged.
