About The Position

Spencer Hospital is seeking a skilled and caring LPN/Medical Assistant to join the Abben Cancer Center team in Spencer, IA. This is a regular, day shift position. Spencer Hospital is a rural hospital in northwest Iowa with over 500 employees, offering competitive salaries and benefits in a pleasant work environment. Requirements

  • Active IA LPN license or Certified Medical Assistant
  • Minimum of 1 year experience required
  • Engages in caring and professional communication at all times
  • BLS or willing to obtain upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Manages patient flow within the clinic to ensure timely patient visits and provider flow.
  • Assists clinic personnel in greeting patients and preparing them for physical examination by taking vital signs, asking pain rating, obtaining height and weight, reviewing medication list and obtaining health history for new patients and reviewing health history for established patients.
  • Ensures all forms are completed along with maintaining the patient clinical record.
  • Provides patient education with regard to office policies, medications, management of disease, home treatments, and special diets.
  • Assists provider with exams and minor office procedures.
  • Performs phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
  • Performs basic lab tests.
  • Prepares and administers medications with provider authorization.
  • Receives verbal orders from provider and assures the completion of provider orders and medical record for each patient’s clinic visit.
  • Schedules patient appointments utilizing computerized scheduling system and arranges for testing to be completed as ordered by the provider.
  • Assures information is accurately relayed to the patient.
  • Answers incoming patient calls and emergent patient visits to assure timely assistance with patient concerns.
  • Changes dressings, applies bandages, and removes sutures and other first aid procedures.
  • Assists in the infusion center with procedures that are within the LPN or MA scope of practice.
  • Uses CPR skills when required.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment, stocking and sterilizing instruments as needed.
  • Complies with safety principles, laws, regulations and standards associated with Spencer Hospital and other regulatory agencies.
  • Disposes of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
  • Performs accurate, legal and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Responsible for providing direct and indirect physical, psychosocial and spiritual care for patients with cancer and other related disease processes.
