About The Position

Spencer Hospital is a rural hospital located in northwest Iowa employing over 500+ employees. Positions at Spencer Hospital are not affiliated with Avera; however, we collaborate to provide services to the communities we serve. Employment offers, if accepted, are exclusively with Spencer Hospital. This role assists in the coordination of patients through the clinic, handling tasks such as answering telephones, scheduling patients, obtaining medical records, and performing other clerical duties. The position involves opening the clinic, preparing for the day, greeting patients and families, and completing registrations for new patients. It also includes managing insurance and ID cards, operating office equipment, updating records, performing electronic filing, and assisting medical staff with documentation. Additionally, the role involves maintaining the nutrition area and sending out cards. Other clerical duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Associate's degree from a college or technical school; or 6 months relatable experience
  • Sensitivity and understanding needed to work with cancer patients
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Compassionate, patient-focused approach to customer service
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Proficient with technology and web-based programs

Nice To Haves

  • Electronic Health Record experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assists in coordination of patients through the clinic, to include, but not limited to, answering telephone, scheduling patients, obtaining medical records and other clerical duties.
  • Opens clinic in mornings and prepares for day.
  • Greets patients and families.
  • Completes registration of new patients.
  • Obtains insurance and I.D. cards of patients of new MO and RO patients and annually updates or reviews with patient each visit.
  • Operates all office equipment and enters work tickets as needed.
  • Updates all phone listings in MO and RO when updated.
  • Independently performs electronic filing, record keeping, copying of documents, faxing, typing, processing correspondence and orders office supplies and supplies for other staff as requested.
  • Obtains new patient referral data and enters into EMR as needed.
  • Assists MD and Director/Supervisor with any needed written documents.
  • Maintains nutrition area in main waiting room.
  • Sends out Thank you and Sympathy cards.
  • Other clerical duties as assigned.
