About The Position

Compass Oncology is seeking an experienced LPN or MA to join their Breast Oncology team at the West Cancer Center in Tigard, OR. This role is crucial in supporting the gynecology oncology team, which includes providers, an RN, Medical Assistants, and schedulers. The team collaborates to guide patients through their cancer care journey. The qualified individual will use the nursing process to address the acute and chronic needs of cancer patients, answer clinical questions, and gather information for providers to inform care decisions. This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position, Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing (for LPN).
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred (for MA).
  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state (for LPN).
  • Current CPR certification required (for MA).
  • Current American Heart Association accredited BLS certification required within 3 months of hire (for LPN).
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a practical nurse (for LPN).
  • Minimum (1-3) years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant, preferred (for MA).
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general nursing care to patients.
  • Screens patients for appropriate information.
  • Administers treatments such as wound care, bladder scans, void trials, etc., in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids physician during examination and procedures.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to providers.
  • Orders/prescribes medications as directed by provider.
  • Provides patient education, including pre/post operative patient education on procedures, medications, and recovery expectations.
  • Responds to/refers incoming telephone calls.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Recognizes when escalation is required to RN to maintain compliance with nurse practice act and state regulations for LPNs.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and current medication reconciliation.
  • Performs EKG and oximetry readings as requested by the provider.
  • Sends referrals, places orders, and requests medical records as outlined by the provider.
  • Maintains patient files, records, and other information.
  • Initiates IV fluids and IV therapeutic medications in accordance with LPN/LVN state nurse practice act.
  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, including hormones and biological growth factors.
  • Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Processes instruments and equipment as needed.
  • Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedules appointments to follow-upon test results, as applicable.
  • Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.
  • Demonstrates reliability and punctuality by consistently showing up on time and maintaining dependable attendance to support team operations and organizational goals.
  • Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
