About The Position

The LPN will be providing Correctional Medical care for those housed at at the Scioto County Sheriff's Office. This is a Full-Time Day Shift position, staffing from 7 am to 7 pm (12-hour shifts) for an adult population. The role exposes nurses to a vast array of medical pathology not typically seen in other healthcare settings. The work is socially meaningful as patients are socially marginalized and lack ordinary access to medical care due to lack of insurance, mental illness, or homelessness, making it ideal for those interested in addiction medicine or mental health. The position offers a large degree of medical autonomy and is free of micromanaging, with extensive nursing guidelines in place. It is considered safer than most other healthcare settings due to strict rules regarding weapons, handling of controversial inmates by correctional staff, punishment for acting out, and the ability to stop and restart visits.
