About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. This role involves demonstrating knowledge of nursing principles, practicing within the full scope of nursing expertise, and utilizing age and population specific standards. The LPN will perform testing to evaluate resident status, recognize problems, recommend solutions, and respond effectively in emergent situations. Key responsibilities include ensuring resident health, comfort, and safety, contributing to resident assessments, administering medications and treatments, providing technical support, and documenting resident interactions and outcomes. The role requires skilled communication and collaboration within an interdisciplinary care team, as well as counseling residents and families on prevention and treatment plans. Knowledge of resident education principles is also necessary.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span as part of the curriculum or have had a minimum of 400 hours of experience as LPN at another facility.
  • Currently holds an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Completes required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training requirements of the department and facility.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in practical nursing is preferred.
  • If position requires IV therapy/management skills, the following is required in North Dakota: graduation from a Board approved AASPN program where IV therapy is part of the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.

  • Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to resident care, medication, behavior, activity, and dietary.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public.
  • Works effectively with professional and supportive personnel as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Communicates clearly and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Counsels residents, family members, and/or resident advocates on prevention and treatment plans.
  • Applies knowledge of resident education principles to develop a self-care program.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
